“Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new person…”
II Corinthians 5:17 TPT
I am not stepping into Christ as I would step into my car. Nor am I getting into Christ as I would get into bed. For eventually I will get out of my car and likewise I will get out of my bed. Instead, I am enfolded into Christ. You might argue it is a mere choice of words or semantics, but I would argue it is the ancient tension between dispositions: Does my free will enable emancipation or enslavement? We were all once (and some still now) enfolded into the grave–the tomb of our own carnality. And then we responded to the voice of Truth and watched the stone door be removed from our own hell. We left the grave, but we were still enfolded in our grave clothes. The verse continues:
“All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new”.
To be enfolded is to be surrounded and embraced. But, to receive one gift we must let go of the non-gift we so foolishly cling to. Come out from the embrace of the tomb and come out from the embrace of the grave clothes (reeking with oldness) and instead be enfolded into Christ.
